Level 1B includes elementary level pieces that appeal to the young student. It begins with a review of C and G Major positions, introduces middle C position, and conveys new musical concepts such as accidentals, staccato and accents, tempo marks, eighth notes and rests, and the damper pedal. The book finishes up with a presentation of half and whole steps, followed by a progressive introduction to the C and G Major scales.

Level 2 includes charming folk tunes, classic themes and appealing original pieces at the late-elementary level. New concepts include dotted quarter notes; melodic and harmonic intervals of sixths, sevenths, and octaves; triads and primary chords in C and G Major; dominant seventh chords; and the D Major scale.

Along the Mississippi is a late-intermediate recital suite. The first movement is entitled Swiftly Flowing River and uses delicate melodic lines in the right hand and a beautiful flowing accompaniment in the left hand. The second movement is entitled Stride Through St. Louis and is a playful swinging jazz tune. The third movement, entitled Tribute to Mark Twain, is an expressive waltz. The fourth movement is entitled View of the Delta Queen,and is as exquisite and grand as the steamboat it was written about.

Dynamics are encouraged and taught as well as the useage of crescendos and diminuendos. Phrasing techniques such as slurs, legato, staccato and accents are introduced. The time signatures that are taught are 3/4, 4/4, and 5/4 and the key signatures that are utilized are C Major, G Major and F Major. Repeats, 8va, ties, fermatas and ritardandos are taught as well.

Level 2 is designed specifically for students in their early years of study who are ready to learn full triads, pedal techniques and more advanced rhythmic figures.
