Keys for the Kingdom is a fully-graded piano series designed especially for the Christian student. Each lesson is carefully written to provide gradual progress. The colorful illustrations are designed to be fun and inspiring, as well as to reinforce the lesson. This graded, multi-key, stylistically diverse series of books introduces the basic music concepts of rhythm, intervals, scales, chords, music theory, artistry, and improvisation. Level A begins with a pre-reading orientation to the black key groups followed by an introduction to the white key letter names. The staff is presented ever so slowly, first using a one line staff, then a two line staff, then the five line staff, much in the style of Francis Clark's method for children entitled The Music Tree. Pieces feature one hand or another, until the end of Level A when students are introduced to the grand staff and are playing melodies between two hands, one note at a time, in middle C position.
KEYS FOR THE KINGDOM - Song List (Level A)
Familiar Christian songs, hymn tunes, folk songs, original tunes by the authors and arrangements of classic melodies are presented in middle C, C Major and G Major positions. Other hand positions are interspersed throughout to facilitate versatility. New concepts presented in Level B include 2 note slurs, ties, intervals, the damper pedal, 2 eighth notes in succession, tempo marks, dynamics, sharps and flats and legato.
KEYS FOR THE KINGDOM - Song List (Level B)
Level C starts with a review of basic note reading concepts and takes extra time to review legato and staccato in preparation for playing these two articulations simultaneously, one for each hand. Other concepts introduced include playing 4ths and 5ths in parallel motion; 6ths, 7ths and octaves; half and whole steps; major and minor pentascales; transposition; incomplete measures (upbeats); dotted half notes and dotted quarter notes; crossing finger 2 over finger 1; and tenuto.

Level D features longer one and two page pieces supporting new concepts including: melodic and harmonic intervals; half and whole steps; C, G, D, and F Major scales; primary triads in C, G, and F Major; triads and inversions; key signatures; syncopation; eighth rests; dominant seventh chords; blocked and broken chords; and Alberti bass.

Jesus Loves Me is the first piece the student plays on the grand staff in middle C position. Harmonic 5ths and 6ths are also introduced in Level 1. A certificate for completing Level 1 is found on the final page. Theory & Technique and Creativity books offer important activities to reinforce and expand upon the basics covered in the Lesson Book.
